The Heart Behind the Practice

About ālaya wellbeing

More than a place to practice or a yoga school to study in, we are a space to learn, evolve, and live yoga every day.

Our Mission

To honour yoga’s ancient tradition, uplift every student with heart and compassion, and bring authentic, indigenous practices into the modern world in a way that is accessible to all

Our Vision

A world where yoga enriches every life, strengthens communities, and inspires meaningful collective and individual growth.

Our Story

Our story begins in the age-old Indian tradition of wisdom passed from elders to the next generation. Our founder, Yogacharya Lalit, began his yoga practice learning from his grandmother. He later continued his early training in traditional Himalayan schools, where his formal practice began at the age of seven. ālaya wellbeing started as a humble centre known as Himalaya Yoga Valley, in India and has since grown into an international community across Goa, Ireland, and a global online platform.

Lalit’s master teacher, HH Swami Veda Bharti, encouraged him to share his teachings with those who would carry them forward through Himalaya Yoga Valley teacher training. What began as deep personal practice evolved into a mission to make yoga accessible, authentic, and inclusive for all.  Today, our Yoga Alliance–certified teacher training programmes and community initiative Yoga Gives Back programme further extends this impact by year round fundraising for community organisations, supporting key workers in homeless services, migrant organisations  and women’s refuge organisations. We are honoured to support indigenous female yoga practitioners from low income backgrounds in India, through our scholarship program. As we continue to grow, our guiding principle remains unchanged: honour the teachings, the practice, and the community that sustains it.

Yet no matter how far we grow, our philosophy remains simple and steady: Honor the Source. Honor the Teachings. Honor the Tradition. Honor the Community.

Our Team

Committed to guiding every student with care, integrity, and respect for yoga’s roots.

Our Journey

What began as a personal dharmic practice by Lalit and Himalaya Yoga Valley , has grown into alaya wellness, a shared journey of health and wellbeing worldwide.

Our Values

We practise yoga as a way of living, with care, responsibility, and respect for everyone it touches.

Honour the Source

We safeguard yoga’s lineage with respect, depth, and humility, teaching through the Eight Limbs and preserving the tradition with clarity and care.

Teach With Heart

Empathy is not an added feature, it is the foundation. Whether someone joins us in a Cork studio, at our training centre in Goa, or through ālaya yoga online, they are welcomed with sincerity and supported with patience.

Keep Yoga Accessible

Our classes, memberships, and teacher training are designed to be inclusive, affordable, and welcoming. We see people, not fine print. True inclusivity drives us- our community is as diverse as our teaching team.

Give Back Through Yoga

Through Yoga in the Park, our annual Christmas Giving Tree for children in Direct Provision Centres, and fundraisers for various local and international charities, we use yoga as a vehicle for collective healing. Seva, selfless service, is not a concept we preach, but a practice we live.

Uphold Excellence

As a Registered Yoga School (RYS 200 & 300) with Yoga Alliance US, Yoga Alliance Canada, the Indian Yoga Association, and the International Yoga Federation, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of teaching and ethics. We are proud members of AYUSH in India, the world's only government ministry for yoga.
