Introduction & Preparation
A gentle start to help you feel safe, comfortable, and ready to practise. This includes a short welcome, essential do’s and don’ts for safety, guidance on using simple props for support, and a gentle warm-up to loosen joints and prepare the body for movement.
Rest & Reset Routines
Short, focused sessions you can pick and choose depending on how you feel. These practices support shoulders, spine, hips, posture, balance, circulation, and relaxation, offering gentle movement, standing support, and guided rest when needed.
Total Reset: Full Chair Yoga Practices
Longer, complete sessions that bring movement and rest together. These practices support the whole body through steady sequences designed to release stiffness, improve flexibility, and encourage a sense of ease and renewal.
Why Chair Yoga Matters
For many people, traditional mat-based practice can feel inaccessible or uncomfortable due to mobility changes, joint stiffness, balance concerns, or simply life’s rhythms. Chair Yoga meets you where you are, offering safe, gentle movement that supports healthy aging and confidence in everyday motion.
At ālaya wellbeing, this course is designed not as a simplified version of yoga, but as a complete, thoughtful practice in its own right. With clear guidance and steady pacing, you’ll find reassurance, ease, and support in the body each time you practise.

Great yoga teacher training! The anatomy section was super helpful, and the online anatomy teacher explained everything so clearly. The example classes, along with the adjustment and alignment guidance, were really useful. I highly recommend this training

Don't wait, enrol today!! Enrolling with Himalaya Yoga Valley was one of the best decisions I ever made! The course is so well thought-out and tutors are knowledgeable, encouraging and inspirational. The curriculum covers so much but is broken down into manageable lessons, which makes the online course so accessible to a busy, working mum, like myself...
Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga practised seated on a chair or using a chair for support. It allows you to move, stretch, and breathe safely without getting down on the floor.
Is Chair Yoga suitable for seniors?
Yes. This course is designed specifically with seniors in mind, offering supported movements that respect changes in mobility, balance, and energy levels that can come with age.
Do I need any yoga experience to join?
No experience is needed. The course is suitable for complete beginners, with clear, step-by-step guidance throughout each session.
I have joint stiffness or arthritis. Is this safe for me?
The practices are gentle and adaptable, with an emphasis on comfort and safety. Movements are slow, controlled, and designed to support joint health rather than push range.
Will I need to get down on the floor at any point?
No. All practices are designed to be done seated or standing with the support of a chair. There is no floor work required.
What kind of chair should I use?
A stable chair without wheels is recommended. A firm seat and straight back offer the best support, and chair arms can be helpful but are optional.
How physically demanding are the sessions?
The sessions are gentle and designed to be accessible. You’re encouraged to move at your own pace, rest whenever needed, and skip any movements that don’t feel right for you.
How often should I practise Chair Yoga?
You can practise as often or as little as feels comfortable. Even short, regular sessions can support mobility, circulation, and overall wellbeing.
Can Chair Yoga help with balance and confidence?
Yes. Using the chair for support allows you to practise standing movements with reassurance, helping build strength and balance over time in a safe way.
How long do I have access to the course?
Once enrolled, you’ll have lifetime access. This allows you to return to the practices whenever it suits your schedule, energy, or needs.
